Roots

Mostafa's greatest influence was his grandfather, the late Mohiuddin Ahmed, Chairman and founder of Khoshroz Kitab Mahal. Mostafa spent his summers working at his grandfather's publishing house, where he discovered his love for the paper and publishing industry, and he went on to join the company full time as Deputy Managing Director. He credits his grandfather with the foundational training behind his business sense.

Work

As Deputy Managing Director of Khoshroz Kitab Mahal Limited, Mostafa has helped bring a heritage publisher into the digital age, with an online store, home delivery across Bangladesh, and, for the first time in Bangladesh's history, a publishing company selling in the United States, through Amazon in the USA and Canada.

He is the sole owner of NDC Holding LLC in New York, which connects Bangladesh with the world through real estate development and import and export, and he helps lead NDC Auto Brick Limited in Magura, maker of Bangladesh's first green brick.

Vision & values

Mostafa is building new ventures with the long-term goal of taking them public. His mission is simple: to honor his family's legacy while building modern companies that create lasting value for Bangladesh.

Outside of work, he loves nature and enjoys caring for cows, fish, and other animals. Ultimately, his goal is to give back to his hometown and make life a little easier for the people who live there.

History

Four generations of building businesses in Bangladesh, beginning in 1939.

The late Mohiuddin Ahmed

Mohiuddin Ahmed

Founder, Khoshroz Kitab Mahal & Magura Group

Mohiuddin Ahmed, a native of Magura, founded Khoshroz Kitab Mahal in Kolkata in 1939. Soon after, at a literary gathering, he met the poet Golam Mostafa, then a teacher at Hooghly District School. Golam Mostafa named the publishing house “Khoshroz Kitab Mahal” after his own poem titled “Khoshroz.”

In Dhaka, Khoshroz became a pioneer of Bengali-language law books. It started publishing law books in Bengali in 1952, and within a decade it had released the Code of Criminal Procedure, the Penal Code, the Evidence Act, Minor Acts, the Police Handbook and the Code of Civil Procedure in Bengali. Khoshroz also became a leading publisher of police-related books.

His faith shaped his life's work. He was first inspired to publish a Quran translation in 1954. In 1981 a severe illness nearly took his life, and after recovering he performed Hajj. That experience strengthened his commitment to Islamic publishing. He asked Dr. Muhammad Mustafizur Rahman, an Arabic professor at Dhaka University, to translate the Quran, and the full translation was completed after two years of work.

From publishing he expanded into industry, founding Magura Paper Mill, Paper Processing and Packaging, Monospool, Jatiya Mudran and NDC Auto Brick, which together grew into Magura Group. Monospool Paper was listed on the stock exchanges in 1989, and Paper Processing and Packaging is also a listed company. Magura Paper Mills was incorporated in 1981 and began commercial operation in 1997. It was the country's first project to produce kraft liner and fluting medium, the papers needed to make corrugated cartons, and it created direct jobs for 500 people.

Mohiuddin Ahmed passed away on 2 December 2024. Today Magura Group and all its sister concerns are led by Chairman Mustafa Kamal Mohiuddin, with Mostafa Jamal Mohiuddin as Managing Director across the group. They carry forward the publishing, paper and industrial enterprises he built over more than eight decades.
